In Pursuit of Wellness…

When I was told that I had MS, I was handed an orange for my left hand and a syringe for my right, to practice. This was my introduction to self injection. I went home. A week later catalogs for wheelchairs and such showed up in the mail. It felt like “diagnose, adios”. I didn’t really know what MS was nor what to expect. As my learning curve ascended, a darkness enshrouded me. I had two young kids, a family. The thing about darkness is that points of light stand out. Marie, my case nurse, advised that I get a copy of “Prescription for Nutritional Healing” and be proactive. Marie was that point of light. I learned by word of mouth that there was a MS support group that met locally. I was able to take a break from work to attend. The first time I walked in, the feeling of community was palpable. I didn’t need to explain, everyone there knew and understood. The darkness brightened.
What I hope to offer here is what I experienced, while riding that learning curve. It reached and reaches farther than I could have imagined. I am not a MD and this is to my advantage. Having lived with MS, every moment, I can listen to my body and feel the response to what I eat, to what I supplement and to what I endure. Research gave me some background, yet pointed in various directions. None the less, my body guides the way. What I offer is my journey. A journey that continues and, I sincerely hope, is inspiration to my fellow MSers and to the caregiver and research communities. I invite you to read on and to share.
